Ottawa Police Service Board

The Ottawa Police Service Board is a seven-member civilian body that oversees the Ottawa Police Service.

The Board is responsible for ensuring that adequate and effective policing is provided in the area for which it has policing responsibility. It sets the overall objectives and priorities for the provision of police services, after consultation with the Chief. The Board is also responsible for hiring the Chief, as well as monitoring and reviewing the Chief’s performance. The Board approves the annual police budget and prepares and adopts a strategic plan for the Police Service at least once every four years.
