Speaking at Board Meetings

The Police Services Board cannot do its job without knowing the needs, concerns and priorities of the community. It gathers that kind of input through several mechanisms, one of which is through hearing delegations at Board meetings. We want to continually improve police services in our City and to do that, we need you to share your concerns or innovative ideas. Even better, get involved in crime prevention programs in your own neighbourhood; information on how to get involved is available on their website.

The Police Services Board entertains public delegations at its regular monthly meetings. As these are business meetings, each delegation is restricted to five minutes, not including any questions the Board members may wish to ask you following the presentation. Requests must be made at least one week before the meeting date if you are looking to address the Board regarding an item that is not listed on the agenda. The subject matter must also be within the jurisdiction of the Board. Delegations wishing to address the Board regarding an item that is listed on the agenda may also be heard provided a request is made which sets out the particulars of the matter on which you wish to speak. Requests to speak to a specific agenda item may be received up until the start of the meeting.

To ensure receipt of your request, please ensure it is sent to both the Executive Director Krista Ferraro krista.ferraro@ottawa.ca and Board Assistant Hannah Logan hannah.logan@ottawa.ca.  You are encouraged to submit your comments in advance in writing so they can be distributed to the Board members prior to the meeting; this allows them to come to the meeting better prepared to discuss them with you. You are invited to provide your preferred pronouns and the phonetic pronunciation of your name. If you would rather not appear before the Board, you can also submit your comments in writing. All requests to speak must be approved by the Board Chair.

If you are interested in speaking to the Police Services Board, please contact the Board office. Please note that individual complaints are not considered at Board meetings as there is a legislated public complaints process to deal with such matters that must be followed and the Board must not interfere in that process - see the section on this website or at the Ottawa Police website.
